Fifteen years after New York composer Ilhan Ersahin founded his evolving collaborative unit of musicians and singers, Wax Poetic is back with their first new music since 2007: On A Ride (September 4, Nublu). The central thread of Wax Poetic's music -- loping bass lines, trip-hop beats and dreamscape vocals -- hasn't dramatically changed with Ersahin and his musicians along with the most recent nucleus of vocalists Sissy Clemens and Gabriel Gordon. But the subtle shift to a more organic alt-pop feel can be heard in On A Ride's eclectic array of songs including lead tracks "No Escape" and "Tonight", both featuring Clemens. Norah Jones, who appeared on a Wax Poetic album in 2000, returns for an encore with "Fall Away" while trip-hop princess Natalie Walker takes the lead on two tracks and Gordon gets the spotlight on three. The result is a Zero 7-ish collection of jazzy chill-out with a warm, beating heart. Listen to Norah, Natalie and more on the On A Ride sampler stream below.
