Out this week in Europe and the U.K., the debut full-length If You Leave from Daughter won't be hitting these shores until April 30. But that's a relatively short time considering we first tipped you to Elena Tonra back in the spring of 2011. Much has happened since then including significant label signings (Glassnote here in the U.S., 4AD in the U.K.) and a distinct broadening of style, from Tonra's original acoustic one-woman-and-a-guitar sound to the more fleshed-out alternative pop (with guitarist/collaborator Igor Haefeli) that inhabits her newer songs. One of the best examples is "Still", a lush track -- and provocative video -- that moves easily from stark ballad to dense, dramatic layers of moody orchestrated backing. Stream another track -- "Smother" -- at DC here.
