Tina Dico - Danish songstress has been something of a DIY trailblazer over the last ten years, releasing one fine independent album after another (our fave: 2005's In The Red) and crisscrossing Europe, The U.K. and America with what has become a live show of confidence and charisma -- and, of course, some great songs...Relocating from London to Copenhagen and recently to Iceland, Dico and partner Helgi Jonsson produced her new songs in their new basement studio // Release: Where Do You Go To Disappear? (September 11, Finest Gramophone) // Sounds like: While Dico has often used electronica as sweetening to her folk/rock production -- a trait she developed early from her work with Zero 7 -- Where Do You Go leans heavily on synthesized sounds to flesh out the new songs...Says Dico of recording in a more secluded environment: "There is a lot of bottled up energy in this silence and these huge quiet landscapes...I thought it would make me write quiet songs but instead I started writing energetic tunes"...
Quote: “I don’t want to turn away from my perception as performing my songs just with an acoustic guitar. But I wanted to make more space for the music on my new record. Space for the music to be able to breathe more, to extend a little more and for it to discover new paths.” // What we like: Dico's voice is a marvel -- and, as tracks like "Moon To Let" demonstrate, one that just seems to be getting stronger and more distinctive...We love the Bangles/Byrds-ian jangle and killer chorus hook of the dazzling title track..."The World Is Perfect" is pretty much a perfectly classic Dico song, an instantly memorable melody grounded to shimmering guitar lines and crackling rhythmic energy...
