Peter and Kerry are Peter Lyons & Kerry Leatham, two British solo singer/songwriters (and former bandmates) who also happen to be signed to the same label in the U.K. (Tape Club Records). A special chemistry led to a special bond and soon the pair were writing songs together and recording at Peter's home. Each brought their own style and sensibilities to the collaborations but the sound they ended up with was something completely new: invigorated and unpretentious indie pop with a cool rhythmic vibe. The songs are surprisingly big sounding and meticulously produced, layers of harmonies and hooky choruses colliding with an inventive base of 80's-era beats and a veritable kit bag of time-keeping sounds. After a well-received 2011 EP, Peter and Kerry flew off to France, for a week of songwriting to jumpstart what was to become their debut album La Trimouille, named for the small town where they stayed. Songs like "Fucking Around" exemplify the loose approach to their co-writes, trading lines, shaping melodies and generally mixing things up. But despite the seat-of-the-pants attitude, songs like "I Don't Know", written under a tree on a sunny day in La Trimouille, were fleshed out in the studio with a witty, winking -- and supremely musical -- panache, songs that are almost as much fun to listen to as we're sure they were to create.
