Phildel - The Disappearance of the Girl

The music of London-based singer/songwriter and instrumentalist Phildel is both ethereal and haunting, a fusion of delicate neo-classical piano melodies and vocals that fall somewhere between angelic and ghostly. Named Phildel Hoi Yee Ng, the 29-year-old daughter of a Chinese father and Irish mother had a troubled domestic upbringing with an abusive stepfather, a harrowing time of depression and loneliness and now lyrical themes that flow through her songs in direct conflict to her music's lovely elegant instrumental backing and ethereal vocals. While slightly weighed down at times by its own seriousness, art/pop songs like "Union Stone" from her debut album The Disappearance of the Girl display a promising songwriter with a gift for melody, vocal arrangements and grand ideas. “My imagination is the biggest inspiration for my work,” says Phildel. “In my imagination, I guess because of my past, there’s a lot of dark imagery and sinister feelings."
