At first blush, Norway's Mona Andersen and Maria Knudsen have a lot in common with the Swedish sibling duo Johanna and Klara Söderberg (aka First Aid Kit). Both duos seem happily caught up in some strange early 70's time warp, reliving and reshaping that particular California folk/pop sound accompanied with the scent of patchouli incense, cannabis and herbal tea. But where the Söderbergs favor the steel guitar twang of the Laurel Canyon neo-country contingency, Mona and Maria combine orchestral baroque folk, trippy psychedelic trappings and a kitchen sink's worth of retro-pop touches. My Sun, released digitally this past spring and relaunched this week, is both dreamily nocturnal and sharply defined, lush mystical chamber folk imbued with a Twin Peaks eerie noir shadow. As they put it, "We wanted to have both the low-key and intimate, and the grandiose and dramatic, to have both darkness and light at once." Click through to stream DC fave "Golden Mind."
