For Mia Dyson the moment began in 2009. After releasing three critically-acclaimed albums in her native Australia, Dyson packed up and made the move to America to explore the country whose music had shaped her own. Over the next three years she lost her partner, her money and her band but she ended up finding her own soul. She also began creating the songs that have become her latest album The Moment (April 23), an extraordinary collection of soulful, often blistering and ragged-in-all-the-right-places roots/rock songs. Dyson's husky rasp of a voice, sounding like its been marinated in a mix of whisky and molasses, has never sounded better while her guitar work is both intricate and incendiary. "Cigarettes" swings and swaggers with a Keith Richards-inspired guitar riff, swirling organ fills and Dyson's pleading, commanding vocals while DC fave "Tell Me" (stream and watch the video below the jump) wraps up Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Booker T in one amazing amalgamation.
