We're celebrating the 25th anniversary expanded reissue (and pricey box set) of Peter Gabriel's classic So album today with a version of the album's brilliant "Mercy Street" by Guy Garvey and Elbow. Originally, this 2010 version came about as a result of Gabriel's Scratch My Back project, where he would cover an eclectic song from an artist (like Elbow's "Mirrorball") and then that artist would reciprocate by doing a Gabriel song. The idea never really came to complete fruition but we did end up with an interesting version of one of our favorite Gabriel songs. Garvey called "Mercy Street" an amazing song...also because there’s a real tenderness and understanding in the lyrics." And we've added an excellent live video of Gabriel performing the song in Milan in 2003 -- watch it below. Elbow's new B-sides collection Dead In the Boot arrives November 20.
