Listen: Daughter - "Smother"

With word that the British alt-folk trio Daughter were announcing the late April U.S. release of their debut full-length If You Leave, we figured it was a good time to revisit "Smother" from the forthcoming project. Originally made up of brooding Brit neo-folkie Elena Tonra and guitarist Igor Haefeli, Daughter expanded to a trio with the addition of drummer Remi Aguilella and broadened their musical stage over the course of a pair of excellent EP's in 2011 -- His Young Heart and The Wild Youth -- offering "lovelorn melancholy and airy, icy vocals meshing with ambient electronic washes, rumbling percussion and piercing guitar lines." Glassnote, home to Phoenix and Mumford and Sons, will release If You Leave on April 30 while the U.K. will get the new songs via 4AD March 18. More on If You Leave at the DC Music News Feed.
