"Southern Sun" marks the return of Australian folk/rockers Boy and Bear and first new music since their critically acclaimed debut Moonfire, a longplayer we described as "a confident, brilliant album of uncommon depth" and the winner of five Aria awards Down Under including Album of the Year. Mustachioed founder and frontman Dave Hosking says Boy and Bear's upcoming August 20 album Harlequin Dream (U.S. TBA) draws heavily on vintage 70's radio staples -- more poppy electric, less folkie acoustic -- and lead single "Southern Sun" is a bracing shot of Dire Straits-styled sinewy guitar licks and a bouncy Fleetwood Mac rhythmic kick. "There's something really magical in their songs," says Hosking of his heroes like The Mac, Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon. "Hopefully something rubbed off." No doubt.
