Friday Cover: Rosie Thomas w/ Sufjan Stevens - "The One I Love" (R.E.M.)

Like the best covers, Rosie Thomas' version "The One I Love" helps us think of that one particular and well-known song in a completely different way. Recording for her 2006 album These Friends of Mine, Thomas tapped one of her BFF's -- Sufjan Stevens -- to add some delicate harmonies to her stripped down acoustic version of R.E.M.'s 1987 original. Of particular note is that the usual romantic interpretation of the song's dedication is completely at odds with the manipulative edge that contradicts the surface sweetness.
