Ed Roland & The Sweet Tea Project - Devils 'n Darlins

When Ed Roland put his multi-platinum band Collective Soul on hiatus a few years ago, he found himself scoping the Atlanta area clubs, meeting local musicians and initiating some jams back home. “Everyone sat around my studio with different instruments -- banjo, mandolin, steel guitar and ukulele -- and just had a lot of fun,” says Roland. Now those impromptu sessions have yielded the new Roland-led Sweet Tea Project and the band's debut album Devils 'n Darlins, just released via 429 Records. The mood is loose and swinging, the music an even looser mix of southern rock licks, breezy Americana, harmonious gospel fervor, brassy soulful strut and even a thoughtful ballad tossed in for good measure. Roland, the man who penned over a dozen 90's radio hits, sounds both liberated and rejuvenated, brewing his own special tea blend: bracing enough for the devils who want to rock, sweet enough for the darlins who want to sing along.
