It was only a couple months ago that we had Denver alt-folk/rockers Churchill on the DC RADAR and here they are again with a few fresh tracks in a new EP The War Within due next week -- four songs that also serve as a preview of the band's A+M/Octone full-length debut due this summer. One of the important components in Churchill's new musical mix (what we've praised as "freewheeling, boisterous and ebullient") is the studio guidance of Brendan O'Brien, the veteran and highly-respected producer who has worked with everyone from Pearl Jam to Bruce Springsteen to The Fray. As expected, we get a BIG sound on tracks like the previously previewed "Change" (stream after the jump) and the EP's razor sharp title track. These are songs that may have started off in the folk/pop world and contain jangles of mandolin and acoustic guitar. But they've also have been transformed into decadently rich anthems with a heaping helping of melodic hooks and propulsive bursts of kinetic energy. This is, as we've noted, "a band ready to lift you, forcefully, out of your seat."
