Alela Diane - About Farewell

The emotionally charged end of a relationship has fueled any number of great songs but rarely has the topic been addressed so eloquently or as hauntingly as on the songs that make up About Farewell (June 25) the fourth studio album from Alela Diane. The Portland-based songwriter moved into a more spirited sound last time around on her album Alela Diane & The Wild Divine with help from R.E.M. studio man Scott Litt. But Diane keeps the mood intimate and the production mostly stripped to the bone as she picks through the remnants of her recently ended marriage and past affairs, offering thoughtful, clear-eyed assessments and reflections with a voice that's at once tenderly unadorned and forcefully direct. "The Way We Fall" has an eerie reverb at work that heightens the intensity while adding an otherworldly feel. Click through to stream (and watch the video for) the title track...
