Songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist Aaron Embry brings that triple-threat prowess with a deft understated touch to his debut album Tiny Prayers (September 18, Community Music). Some may know Embry from his stint as Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros' onstage piano man. Others may recognize him from his past playing with the likes of Daniel Lanois, Elliott Smith and Emmylou Harris or from his own eclectic L.A. indie band Amnion. Or perhaps as one of the openers on the recent Mumford and Sons traveling music circus (Marcus is clearly a fan). But we're betting that the ten-track Tiny Prayers, with it's rustic country/folk charms, will take Embry far beyond his role as creative sideman and producer. The songs were written while Embry was on the road with the Sharpe clan for a few years and then recorded at his home with Embry playing nearly all the instruments himself. Lead track "Moon of the Daylit Sky" sets the sparse Prayer stage with a minimum of fuss, just a ramshackle batch of acoustic guitar lines punctuated by a harmonica wheeze and Embry's tender homespun vocals.
