Curtis Stigers - Let's Go Out Tonight

We're frankly as surprised as you to be featuring the latest from Curtis Stigers, the sax-toting, adult pop singer whose 1991 debut album sold more than a million copies via the hit single "I Wonder Why". Over the next twenty years, Stigers has redefined himself as a jazz-leaning, cabaret-styled crooner who can cover the standards and write his own songs to boot. But Let's Go Out Tonight (April 24, Concord) is something else. Working in the studio with acclaimed producer Larry Klein (Melody Gardot, Madeleine Peyroux), Stigers interprets a decidedly more eclectic array of covers this time around, bringing a darker, more soulful and bluesy folk/pop edge to songs from Bob Dylan, Richard Thompson, Steve Earle and Jeff Tweedy along with songs from the repertoires of Crowded House ("Into Temptation") and Scottish alt-pop legends The Blue Nile (the eerily seductive title track). The collection is "probably the most autobiographical album I’ve ever made,"says Stigers. Thanks to some inspired song choices, Klein's opulent but tasteful production (and killer studio band) and Stigers' own weary, affecting vocals, Let's Go Out Tonight extends an invitation that's hard to resist.
