Signed by the legendary Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, Durham, NC roots-'n-pop band Delta Rae are readying their debut album Carry the Fire for a June 19 release via Warner Brothers. Drawing on elements of folk, blues, rock, gospel and country, Delta Rae -- led by siblings Brittany, Ian & Eric Hölljes -- released their focus track (and video - watch below) "Bottom of the River" last fall as well as a free download of an energized concert recording. "I hate labels," says Stein, "but if forced I would have to call their music 'Original Americana,' not unlike what the English are sending over via Mumford & Sons and others." We hear nearly as much straight melodic pop and rock as we do the more rootsy elements -- particularly on songs like "Chains On Love" and "Morning Comes" -- but Delta Rae's soulfully entwined harmonies, soaring vocals and dramatic crescendos make for a promising and potent mix.
