Tim Finn - A couple of years ago, the lauded and legendary kiwi songwriter and co-founding member of legendary '80's new wavers Split Enz (with brother Neil) hinted that his solo career might have run its course after eight albums...but a random communication with noted producer Jacquire King (Norah Jones, Kings of Leon) led to a fresh batch of introspective songs // Release: The View Is Worth the Climb (Just out Down Under via Universal; US: TBD) // Sounds like: At 59, Finn's husky voice is showing some minor wear and tear but there's no denying that King (and a fine backing band) have made some quietly inspiring if not groundbreaking music here...spending a year on the writing and then less than two weeks in the studio has made the songs stronger and the production more spontaneous...
Quote: " I would send demos out (to King) and it became quite a nice organic process, which I’ve never really had. I think nearly every other time there’d only be a period of a couple of months or so where you’d send songs out and then all of a sudden it would be all on. Jacquire became part of the writing process in a way and it was really fun.” // What we like: the decidedly relaxed sound of Finn's View ironically brings his trademark flair for a classic melody into even sharper focus..."All This and More" reflects vintage Finn songwriting in the "Persuasion" and "Weather With You" mode, just an effortless hook-filled melody and addictive chorus...title track was co-written by DC fave and rising ARIA-winning performer Megan Washington..."Certain Way" chugs along with an insistent bass line and some nice ringing guitar lines (video below)...
