We first tipped you to Daughter - aka Brit songwriter Elena Tonra - this past spring with the release of her promising EP His Young Heart and DC Daily Track "Landfill". As we noted earlier, Tonra's songs bristle beneath their lovely acoustic surface with a intense, even brutal, intimacy - a feature that comes to the surface in even greater relief with her haunting new November 22 (UK) EP The Wild Youth and new track Love. Certainly there are some comparisons to be made to the fresh crop of U.K. nu-folk strummers and Daughter's stripped and revealing acoustic live shows present someone who could easily fit in that mold. But in the studio, we get a very different, very dark atmosphere, Tonra's brooding lovelorn melancholy and airy, icy and reverbed vocals meshing with ambient electronic washes, rumbling percussion and piercing guitar lines. Seriously good. More DC and "Landfill" here.
