Madison Violet - Canadian acoustic roots/pop duo of Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac return with their fourth album - a self-described "open diary" - of bittersweet, bluegrass-tinged songcraft since joining creative forces a decade ago...winners of the '09 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for their track “The Ransom,” the pair also took home the Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year// Release: The Good In Goodbye (Just out in Canada, US: TBD, True North) // Sounds like: Producer Les Cooper, who handled MV's '09 project No Fool For Trying, again keeps the sound simple and focused, letting the voices take the spotlight...the "Canadiana" (or is that "North Americana") twang, Scottish heritage and mountain folk influences lend an air of rootsy authenticity to many of the MacEachern and MacIsaac's often starkly personal songs...
Quote: "The internet is a great tool, and if you're savvy and your music is good enough to be able to make your mark on there, then good on you. But the competition on the internet is 100 fold to the artists who are out there lugging gear, playing their hearts out and singing for a living, instead of typing their way to success." // What we like: the unpretentious directness of a song like "Stuck In A Love" smartly balances a sweetly turned melody with the bitter lament of the lyrics (plus we love the subtle piano shadings)...the Indigo Girls and Dixie Chick offshoot Courtyard Dogs come to mind in the intricate harmonies of "Home"..."Goin' Away" and "The Good In Goodbye" show off the old-timey mandolin/fiddle interplay while keeping the tempo at a jaunty bounce..."Come As You Are" adds some bluesy electric fretwork and a Neil Young-ish feel, right down to the harmonica wheeze...

So far I love these two new tracks. I can't wait to get my hands on this new CD. These ladies are totally awesome! Saw them in Stony Brook, NY. What a great experience. If you haven't seen Madison Violet live you are truly missing out!
