Frankly we're as all over the place about SuperHeavy as the "superstar" band seems to be on their strangely over-hyped and under-heralded debut album arriving tomorrow. The basics: Mick Jagger, producer/ex-Eurythmic Dave Stewart, U.K. soul pop diva Joss Stone, rasta-rocker Damian Marley and Oscar-winning Indian soundtrack maven A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire) get together to make some genre-blurring music. Is it simply a quick one-off marketing effort? Is it, as Stone says, “a new kind of music...a new genre"? Whatever it is, it certainly sounds pretty good from a production perspective, even if the material may sound somewhat forced on occasion. Witness: the very Stones-sounding "Never Gonna Change" where the 68-year-old Jagger's soulful croak (and Stewart's dense mix) manage to resurrect (if not actually duplicate) a little "Wild Horses" mini-magic.
