Basia - It's been a couple of decades or so since singer Basia Trzetrzelewska joined up with trendsetting Brit band Matt Bianco but the Latin-flavoured jazz/pop that also influenced contemporaries like Sade and Everything But the Girl stuck with the platinum-selling Polish-born vocalist...Basia and keyboardist Danny White continued to explore the cocktail-cool rhythmic pop for a series of best-selling Basia "solo" albums in the 90's...New concert album, recorded this past June in the Polish city of Łódź, offers up 15 live versions plus two new studio tracks // Release: From Newport to London/Greatest Hits Live (and More) (September 13, E1) // Sounds like: Basia says that she always wants to create an "informal and relaxed" atmosphere live and that mellow vibe keeps the mood breezy and bright, even as her formidable band -- with some fine horns in tow -- stretch out with a Brazilian-beat spark...Basia' distinctive vocals are even richer now: witness the interplay with her backing singers on "From Now On"...
Quote: "The title track is an expression of our love for European film music and the world of art - a story of infatuation with a stranger on a train, who is in himself a 'work of art'. It will become clearer what I am talking about when you hear the track." // What we like: the stressless ease and sharp musicianship on display gives this generous collection a sleek, often glossy finish, but beneath the cool exterior are some warm melodies and a style that's not that far removed from the swaying indie pop of Kings of Convenience or jazz-tinged cabaret moods of Melody Gardot...

"From Now On" was the first song that hooked me on Basia. I played her singing "I don't mind" over and over and over in awe of how she "touched" on the ending of the word "mind..." purely captivating and in beautiful control of lyrics... Can't wait to buy the new CD and see she and Danny once again live in Atlanta.
