After a pair of promising EP's over the past couple years -- the full-fleshed Small and Sweet from 2009 and last year's stripped Demos -- we think Nashville singer/songwriter Natalie Prass is due for some new music. Hopefully she feels the same way, too, and the fact that she's playing a showcase at this year's Soundland in Nashville come September makes us optimistic. As you'll hear from the two tracks below, Prass has a way with a novel song structure, propelling her melodies with a twisting, turning, what's-coming-next unpredictability, a style that would seem more suited to L.A.'s Hotel Cafe or N.Y.'s Living Room art-pop scene. We're not completely taken with everything, particularly with a few of the Demos (guess that's why they call them demos), but when they're good, they're very, very good. Stream Small and Sweet here (go immediately to the title track).
