Straddling the twin peaks of crunching, hi-energy power pop and heart-on-sleeve, folkie tunecraft, Spokane, WA singer/songwriter Jerad Finck has built a solid and growing fan base through heavy touring, radio play, TV song placement and social media word of mouth. Listening to his music, you can discern distinct and timeless influences echoing through his music, from melodic classic rock -- Beatles, Cheap Trick, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20 -- to iconic songwriters like James Taylor and Elton John. It's easy to see why Finck decided to include a rambunctious cover of The Beatles' "Paperback Writer" on his self-titled album.
While we await new music from Finck, a new version of the song "Runaway", reworked by producer Anthony Resta (Collective Soul, Guster) put a different spin on the song. Downshifting easily from jangling folk/pop to anthemic rock, the song's oversized and infectious chorus hook sinks deeply into the gray matter. A near perfect summertime hit-in-waiting, "Runaway" is mainstream, roll-down-the-windows pop with just enough of a potent rock chaser -- and old-fashioned guitar solo (what a concept!) -- to keep things bracing.
