Driving along some lonesome midwest highway this morning, "Not" from Cheyenne Marie Mize came on the iPod player reminding us how a great song can be so simply yet elegantly constructed. The Louisville-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has a way with a melody on this standout from her 2010 Before Lately album, one that we described as "Americana folk, flickering torch ballads and spacious chamber pop of somber melancholy." Favorite line: "These words can't change your mind, how can they change your heart?" More DC on Before Lately here.

Damn, that is some mellow stuff, there. I've never heard of Cheyenne before, but this was nice, sort of a combination between something Sarah McLachlan and Nora Jones, but with a younger, more country feel. I'm down.
CS,
Wow, thanks so much for this! I picked up the CD and it's great, this is the best track. Now I'm hoping she'll tour again with Vandaveer (love love love) -- but on the EAST Coast this time!
