RADAR: Valery Gore

We're eagerly awaiting new music from Valery Gore, a precocious, exceptionally gifted, piano-playing practitioner of sparkling progressive (sm)art/pop. Her second album, the self-produced, wonderfully titled Avalanche to Wondering Bear (2008) received deserved critical acclaim for the Toronto-based performer as it nimbly drew on an impressive variety of styles and influences, from her classically-trained youth to offbeat jazz rhythms to the modern, elaborately twisty pop melodies of Ben Folds and Fiona Apple to the classic songcraft of Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan and Laura Nyro. The long-overdue follow up to Wondering Bear is said to be in progress and not a moment too soon. Stream the full Bear after the jump...
