Peter Bradley Adams - Acclaimed singer/songwriter returns with his fourth fine solo album of gentle neo-folk since moving on from Eastmountainsouth, the duo he formed with singer Kate Maslich-Bode a decade ago for one legendary album...instrumental backing includes work from guitarists Joe McMahan, Jonathan Trebing and Lex Price -- each of whom shared production credits with Adams on various tracks. Harmonies provided by Maslich-Bode, Katie Herzig (who sings backup appropriately on the song "Katy") and Aoife O'Donovan (from Boston new acoustic outfit Crooked Still) // Release: Between Us (Mishara, June 14) // Sounds like: Adams crafts songs that are filled with mountain-styled flat-top picking and spare piano lines...notes seem to drift and hang in open space as his smoky unassuming voice glides above and in between, able to find just the perfect territory between rustic, acoustic Americana and the core of a perfectly restrained pop hook... Quote: “All the songs were written since moving from Nashville to Brooklyn two years ago. As I was writing the songs, I would make work tapes on my phone, and listen back while walking the streets or riding trains. So now, even though there's nothing urban about this music, it somehow seems to fit the landscape of the city. Or at least it does in my head.” What we like: "Be Still My Heart" gets sterling support from Nashville newcomer Molly Parden on backing vocals and five (count 'em) different guitarists all weaving notes in and out...the plaintive title track serves as a solemn folk hymn of subtle, muted beauty, the bent pedal steel lines adding windswept poignancy...
