Daily Track: KORT - "A Special Day"

The indescribably wonderful Nashville singer/songwriter Cortney Tidwell paired up with Kurt Wagner of Lambchop for the side-project KORT and the recent Invariable Heartache collaboration, an album of waltzing alt-country duets that sounded like an updated twist on twang-heavy, tear-in-beer nostalgia. No slight to Mr. Wagner gruffly dulcet tones, but it is Cortney's sweet voice of melancholy that rings our bell here, particularly on the roadhouse slow dance "A Special Day". Like nearly all of Heartache's tracks, this one is a fresh read on a dusted off classic from the Chart Records catalog, a label run by Cortney's grandfather Slim Williamson (and where her father worked in A+R). We think that connection makes "A Special Day" even more special.
