"I Want It Back" arrives via Mercury, the superb, intimate -- and, well, mercurial -- new album from alt/folk and Americana songwriter Pieta Brown. "The song itself is a simple love song about longing," says the soft-spoken Iowan as she dedicates the song to the Occupy movement, "…about wanting things back...like the feeling of a coherent country--a country where people from different places and ways of thinking try to work together..." After Brown toured with former Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler -- who describes Brown's singing as "effortless and natural, like rain on earth" -- she and members of Knopfler's band holed up in a barn outside of Nashville and recorded Mercury in a matter of days. “Words and melodies arrived intertwined," says Brown of the songs, "some like visions, some as simple memories, some like urgent messages.” In "I Want It Back", we hear elements of all.
