Mount Moriah - Heather McEntire and Jenks Miller -- two young veterans of the burgeoning North Carolina indie music landscape -- follow up their more alt/pop Un Deux Trois collaboration with a folk/rock and Americana direction...one of the best new bands we've heard this year // Release: Mount Moriah (April 12, Holidays For Quince) // Sounds like: seriously great music -- intelligent and unpretentious, steeped in southern music traditions without resorting easy nostalgia... acoustic, ragged and worn in just the right places, turning on a dime to frayed, majestic rock edges...
Quote: "...there was a conscious decision to...work really hard and make it work...(with) that sort of revelation we kind of had a more serious attitude maybe towards the music and said let’s tackle some heavier themes." // What we like: McEntire's sublimely weary vocals, sweetly pleading in gorgeous layered harmonies in the ghostly "Old Gowns" (amazing video, too)...the street gospel fervor and rich textures of "Lament" and upbeat jangle of "Social Wedding Rings"...
