RADAR: Heather Christian & The Arbornauts
New York downtown singer/songwriter/actress Heather Christian has one of those special, utterly unique voices. Whether or not you're taken with it probably depends on your particular state of mind and whether or not you want to push your boundaries just a bit. We love it, actually. We love the fluid warble, the expressive quiver that brings to mind a combination of Cyndi Lauper and Carol Channing, the oddly figured timbre that seems tailor-made for Christian's sweeping, theatrical music. And we especially love her piano ballads, the melodies that you savor like sweet, pungent tea on your tongue. With her amazing band The Arbornauts in tow, Christian's freewheeling live shows in the Lower East Side have been mesmerizing displays of quirky humor and goose-bump-enducing dramatic brillance. We've been patiently waiting her debut album Cabinet for years (literally) -- but the wait, we're told, is almost over. Stay tuned.

I was given a chance to hear Heather Christian performed once, and I must say that she was one of the few singers with such a unique voice.
