We've been on the bandwagon for Louisville singer/songwriter/violinist Cheyenne Marie Mize for a while now, with her collaborations with fellow Kentuckian Will "Bonnie 'Prince' Billy" Oldham and her own fine solo album Before Lately. While we described the project as "Americana folk, flickering torch ballads and spacious chamber pop of somber melancholy", it would appear -- based on new song "Wishing Well" -- that the heat's been turned up dramatically on her upcoming EP We Don't Need, arriving January 24 via Yep Roc/Roaring Colonel. Foot stompin', hand clappin', gospel-hued blues/folk with a suprisingly potent soulful edge, "Wishing Well" is two minutes of head-turning, poly-rhythmic bliss.
