RADAR: Said the Whale

Vancouver indie alt-popsters Said the Whale keep the warbley jangle-pop razor sharp and full-bodied on their November 8 EP New Brighton, a prelude of sorts to their new Little Mountain full-length due March 6. Winners this year of a Juno (read: "Canadian Grammy") for New Group of the Year, STW began as a platform for songwriters Ben Worcester and Tyler Bancroft and expanded into a full-fledged band five-piece for the release of their debut in 2008. There's a touch of geeky Ben Folds-ian seat-of-your-pants exuberance in tracks like the New Brighton's title track but we also detect some serious prop nods to the late 70's and 80's melodic and caffeinated post-punk era of the likes of The Knack and Marshall Crenshaw.
