Listen: Wild Child - "Silly Things"

Wild Child is baggy pants and untied shoes, no belt, no socks and a loosened wide, colorful tie around a sweaty Texas neck. The music of Austin's Wild Child -- Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins with a backing band -- is gangly and ramshackle indie folk/pop, loping between barefoot acoustic doo-wop sing-a-longs (missing a note here and there) and witty, lyrically incisive observational tunecraft. Think The Weepies armed with ukuleles and knockin' around with Modest Mouse and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. The ends are frayed, the form is sagging and makeshift but the effect is, oddly enough, strikingly ear-grabbing and original -- as on "Silly Things", the lead track from the forthcoming Wild Child debut album Pillow Talk (October 25, Major Nation). Check out the cool fiddle break near the end...
