With the densely layered acapella harmonies of "Weightless", the aptly titled track from Portland, OR songwriter Courtney Jones, we couldn't help but have a flashback to Imogen Heap's breakout hit "Hide and Seek" -- but thankfully minus the synth vocoder embellishments. Both have gorgeous melodies and stunningly intertwined singing but we prefer Jones' more organic-sounding production (though she might lose out on the novelty factor). Taken from her album Awake and Dreaming, "Weightless" got a boost this past spring when it was featured in a two-minute segment of the TV drama Flashpoint. Jones is currently wrapping up a new album for early 2012 with producer Peter Malick (Norah Jones).

"Weightless" is beautiful. Real musicianship, real effort and thought went into the creation of this song and arrangement. If only more of today's singer-songwriters seriously studied their craft, so they could offer something besides coy affectation, heavy breathing and diddling with a guitar they can barely play.
MORE OF SAME, and thank you, Ms. Jones.
