"Summer Forgets Me" comes to us from the oddly monikered Deas Vail, an Arkansas-based indie-pop quintet with a rock edge led by frontman, cherubic vocalist Wes Blaylock and keyboardist (and wife) Laura. With Wes' boyish falsetto and the band's complex and angular art/pop -- reminiscent at times of an emo-tinged version of Danish modern prog purveyors Mew -- their self-titled album distinguishes itself from the slew of energized and eager indie longplayers with an instinctive focus on songcraft. "Summer Forgets Me" rocks when it needs to, drifts and soars at the right moments and grabs the ear with a killer, sweetly harmonized chorus hook. Deas Vail arrives today digitally, tomorrow on disc.
