Doves - The Best of...(The Places Between 2000-2010)

We normally don't feature rehashed "Best of" collections here at DC, but when it came to the sprawling 2-disc retrospective from Doves, we relented with nary a struggle. After all here is one of the U.K.'s finest bands -- and still vastly underappreciated in the States -- with a 33-track, decade spanning collection with not only a good representation of fan faves and Brit hits from their four excellent albums but three new songs and a hefty bunch of rarities to boot on the package's second disc. Set for an April 6 street (Virgin), The Best of: The Places Between 2000-2010 is an ideal starting point for those looking for an intro and an indispensable addition for those already possessing Dove-like (and love) tendencies. And for both, there's a bonus third disc: a DVD containing 13 music videos.

Hailed by UNCUT as the U.K.'s "most innovative rock group" and, as we have written, "less hook-driven than Coldplay or Muse, the Manchester band still have the epicly grandeur chops down, combining exhilarating scope and intricate, sharply defined songs into an intensely hypnotic rush of sound." The new lead track "Andalucia" is a sterling, shimmering example of what Doves are capable of, a breathtaking, propulsive ride that takes wall-of-sound acoustic and electric guitar riffs to arena-sized levels. "Friday's Dust", a rare, stripped version from '05's Last Broadcast album, eliminates the original's heavy orchestration and effects leaving just the acoustic take behind. Highly recommended.

Enjoy the streams -- respect the artist -- buy the music...Thanks
