Tim Easton - Porcupine

Rock/Americana - For his fifth album, critically praised Americana rocker Tim Easton decided to "make some noise and get that jagged, midwestern rock and roll sound again". The result is the April 28-released Porcupine a welcome jolt of rough and tumble swaggger that manages to condense three-chord grace and passion into two and three minute slices that mix up blues, rock, folk and a hint of twitchy rockabilly.
With folksier elements still creeping through to recall Dylan and The Band, the sharp electric guitar riffs of Easton and Kenny Vaughn (Lucinda Williams) bring a rowdier roadhouse feel that's meant to be experienced leaning up against a crowded bar, the sweat and commotion setting the right stage for something loud and therapeutic.
"I thought the physical animal called the porcupine was a perfect symbol for the sound of this record," says Easton, "in that it appears to be a gentle and harmless creature from a distance but up close it is in fact sharp and potentially dangerous."
