Slow Moving Millie - Renditions

Reworking 80's Brit pop songs as stripped piano ballads is hardly a novel idea but Slow Moving Millie -- aka Amelia Warner -- brings her own spin to the unadorned covers concept on her forthcoming Renditions, arriving December 13 in the U.K. Warner, who garnered her new moniker when friends remarked that her music had something of an underwhelming delivery, has already gotten something of head start recently when a London department store chose her version of The Smiths "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" as their oh-so-subtle theme song for the holiday buying season. Along with a handful of originals -- including "Beasts" -- we get Millie-ized versions of Yazoo ("Don't Go"), Bananarama ("Love In the First Degree"), Thompson Twins ("Hold Me Now"), to name a few, all naked with just the melody, a lonely piano and Warner's medium cool voice holding sway. "...Underneath they're actually all really poignant songs," she says, "and they're all about having your heart broken..."
