Keeping with a math symbol title theme, British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran has announced the release of his sophomore album x, or multiply, on June 23, the follow up to his breakout debut album + (plus). The new album was executive-produced in L.A. with legendary studio man and label executive Rick Rubin, a man who has helped define the sound and guide the careers of artists such as Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash, Adele and The Dixie Chicks. Also involved: Pharrell Williams and producer Jake Gosling who worked with Sheeran on his debut.
According to NME, Rubin advised Sheeran to first record his new songs acoustically and then overlay additional instrumentation in the studio. Lead single "Sing," produced by Williams, will get a full debut tonight in the U.K. but Sheeran has provided a brief preview via the video below.
Sheeran has released a debut album has sold more than a million units in the U.K. alone, sold out Madison Square Garden and co-written with a number of A-list acts including Taylor Swift, for whom he opened a 60+ date U.S. tour.
