Jazz/folk chanteuse Melody Gardot will return this spring with a long-awaited and aptly titled new album Absence due May 29 via Verve. According to her French label's site, the new project, the follow up to her critically acclaimed and international 2009 best seller My One and Only Thrill, was written by Gardot during her worldwide travels with the various songs reflecting the music of those varied cultures including "the deserts of Morocco, the streets of Lisbon, from the tango bars of Buenos Aires to the beaches of Brazil." The new album was produced and arranged by Heitor Pereira, who also served as guitarist, and includes support from drummers Jim Keltner and Peter Erskine, bassist John Leftwick and "a host of musicians and invited contributors." Details to come.

i'd say i long to hear the voice whose absence leaves such hush
but it is more than hearing's loss can lay as claim.
it's sunset's insignificance, the moon and stars inconsequence
lamenting me in self-defense into holding on till abstinence refrains.
