Richard Thompson Taps Buddy Miller for 'Electric' New February 5 Album

Press Release: Named one of Rolling Stone’s 20 Greatest Guitarists, Grammy nominated musician Richard Thompson returns with a brand new, guitar driven record titled Electric due out February 5th via New West Records. Thompson’s virtuosic guitar playing astonishes, whether demonstrating his lightening fast hybrid picking technic or playing mesmerizing electric solos, his versatility allows him to adapt his style as each song requires. Also considered by many, including American Songwriter to be “one of this world’s most gifted songwriters,” Thompson has written eleven new songs for Electric.

Electric was made at Miller’s home studio in Nashville, TN with Thompson and his rhythm section: drummer Michael Jerome and bassist Taras Prodaniuk. Miller who himself is a renowned for his guitar skills recently told with Rolling Stone, "I played along on the record, playing rhythm guitar for him, and I got a two-week guitar lesson while he camped out in my house." Other guests on the album include the legendary Alison Krauss who joins Thompson on “The Snow Goose” while English singer-songwriter Siobhan Maher-Kennedy (formerly with River City People) adds vocals on several tracks as well. Fiddle great Stuart Duncan also plays on the record.

Recipient of BBC’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Mojo’s Les Paul Award Thompson was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen of England’s 2011 New Year Honours List and most recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting by the Americana Music Association. Thompson is also a heralded songwriter with Robert Plant, REM, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt and many others recording his work.
