Legendary SoCal dream pop band Mazzy Star will return in 2012 with their fourth studio album and first in over 15 years. The as-yet-untitled new project from singer Hope Sandoval (pic) and guitarist Dave Roback will get a preview next week as two new songs "Common Burn" and "Lay Myself Down" hit the digital stores and radio. Since the band's hiatus in the late 90's, Sandoval released a pair of albums as Hope Sandoval and The Warm Inventions, the most recent of which Through the Devil Softly, was released in 2009. It was during interviews for that project that Sandoval announced that she and Roback were working together again on a new Mazzy Star album.

Many sites have reported Mazzy's new single to be released by Oct. 31, but so far yours is the only site I've seen that states definitively an album will follow, & even states when, i.e. early 2012. Not that the album news is surprising, as singles often precede albums, & Mazzy's been promising a new album for years now, but what's your source for the album news, I wonder? Or is it perhaps from one of those "Deep Throat' style insider sources who insist on remaining anonymous?!
