DIRECT CURRENT MUSIC
WHO WE ARE...AND WHAT WE DO:
Direct Current is all about music...good music and great music. This site works with artists, labels and distribution companies to bring the latest news, information, release dates and more about artists creating interesting, individual and eclectic music.
Our focus is primarily on artists that we think are more than the "flavor of the month". Some would call it "adult music" but we know this isn't an "age" thing, it's about perception, individual taste and appreciation.
We lean on adult pop, rock, singer/songwriters, folk, Americana, alt-country, adult alternative, soul, world music, crossover jazz and simply those artists that make us go "hmmm." We're constantly scouring an extensive array of sources for news and information about artists we care about -- and hope that you'll discover and appreciate the music we're bringing to you.
You won't find much hip-hop, hard rock, emo, metal, screamo, teen pop, classical, oldies, geezer rock, dance music, Christian, Latin, hard core or a lot of other categories. Not because we don't respect what these genres bring to the big picture...we just want to keep our vision on those artists that we like to listen to. It's pretty much as simple as that.
We encourage your comments and feedback. And we always appreciate any blogs or site that would like to link to us -- if you'd like reciprocation consideration, give us a shout. If you have news or information that you think would make sense for us at DC, drop us a line. If you have suggestions, well -- you get the drill. Write to us at
Direct Current Music was founded by Dave Curtis, a music industry veteran who has worked for many years on both the music retail and label/distribution sides of the business. Most recently, Curtis was Senior VP of Sales/Marketing for Sony Music in New York (later SONY BMG -- the shortlived, two-headed creature). Curtis' goal for Direct Current was to reconnect with the music that drove him into this rather insane business to begin with, to rekindle the passion for new artists and music that often gets overlooked by the traditional music media gatekeepers. Jim Nelson handles sales, marketing and promotion for Direct Current. When he started his radio career in 1978, all Jim Nelson wanted to do was be on the air playing great music for interested listeners. Along the way, he got his wish doing weekends for a short while at KCAL-FM/San Bernardino, but mostly he got sidetracked working behind the scenes at KLOS, KTWV and the old KWST in Los Angeles, and several other jobs within the national radio industry, including many years working at syndicated radio shows Rockline, PowerCuts and In The Studio. Nelson also spent two decades as a freelance music writer for Paste, Performing Songwriter, RIP and Request magazines, and a decade and a half as an editor and writer at radio publications The Album Network, Radio & Records and Triplearadio.com. In addition to his work at Direct Current Music, Jim also has a daily radio show on Los Angeles' KCSN. To contact Jim directly:
