The Great Book of John - 'The Great Book of John'

The Great Book of John - Taylor Shaw, founding guitarist of the dearly departed Alabama band Wild Sweet Orange, is the creative captain behind the expanded sound of his band's ambitious sophomore release...the first line of a Hank Williams song gave this darkly spiritual band their moniker // Release: The Great Book of John (August 16, Communicating Vessels) // Sounds like: a dramatic move away from their acoustic-driven debut, TGBOJ tosses dense, crunching guitars and a massive production scope into the mix for these spacious and dramatic new songs...New single "Robin Hood" exemplifies the interesting aural dichotomy as an acoustic guitar floats above a rich, layered sound that borders on "the heavy"...

Quote: "the lyrical inspiration of all the songs would have to do with God, the devil and love...not necessarily lost love but girls -- they kind of get me in trouble" - Taylor Shaw // What we like: when Shaw speaks of his influences, we get Neil Young and Dylan but we also get Radio Head and Sigur Ros, that's the sound of genre-specific walls happily being torn down...who can resist the pull of "Robin Hood" or the way Shaw's wailing voice slips around the notes of the aptily named "Let Me Slide" or the celestial harmonies of Beka Shaw on the spine-tingling glory of "Dust Over Manhattan"...
