Debbie Neigher - 'Debbie Neigher'

Debbie Neigher - Eclectic Bay-area musician/songwriter John Vanderslice came out of production retirement to take the helm of this promising debut from fellow San Francisco singer/songwriter Neigher -- "the luckiest freak accident" she says of the collaboration // Release: Debbie Neigher (July 26) // Sounds like: intricately detailed, piano-based (sm)art/pop -- think Fiona, Regina as influences -- with a light, often jazzy touch, the ten tracks also utilize the Vanderslice connection to bring aboard the local Magic*Magic Orchestra for string arrangements //Quote: "I grew up not having a band to play with, so I made up for it by bringing out the full sound of the piano." // What we like: "My My My" has a dramatic, confessional tone at its heart, heightened by the lovely backing from the Magic*Magic Orchestra...the oversized production scope of the theatrical "Evergreens" might overwhelm a lesser song -- not so here, fortunately, thanks to Neigher's impassioned performance...
