Dave Alvin - Eleven Eleven

Dave Alvin - "I've been fighting this guitar for thirty long years" growls the former frontman of the trailblazing 70's roots rock band The Blasters on his new album of lean, unvarnished album of bluesy roadhouse rock...the Grammy winner's first solo studio album of original material in seven years // Release: Eleven Eleven (June 21, Yep Roc) // Sounds like: with a voice that sounds like he's been gargling regularly on an elixir of whisky and the remains of an old ashtray, Alvin's gruff singing style is balanced by his trademark stinging guitar firepower...while he's made some tender acoustic albums of dustbowl folk ballads, Eleven Eleven is a mostly tough, muscular workout // Quote: "There are two kinds of folk music: quiet folk music and loud folk music. I play both." // What we like: the rough and tumble "Dirty Nightgown" unleashes some searing guitar lines as Alvin conjures up a sweaty sheet scenario..."Black Rose of Texas" has a Mark Knopfler-esque subtlety in its shimmering twang..."Harlan County Line", featured in the TV drama Junstified, is a menacing, tightly wound barnburner...

I've been enjoying Dave Alvin and his sound for thirty years. I can hardly wait until June 21st for his release. He just keeps getting better and better.
Thanks Direct Current for the taste of things to come.
Eleven Eleven!!
