My Morning Jacket - Circuital

My Morning Jacket - Eagerly anticipated sixth studio album from the veteran Kentucky band was recorded in Louisville and Nashville with producer Tucker Martine (Decemberists)...basic recording was done in a church gym and recorded almost completely live to create a more spontaneous creative environment for the band // Release: Circuital (May 31, ATO) //Quote: "I feel like this record was a lot looser for us — I tried to give us less fully formed songs to work with, so we could all really flesh out the songs together and everyone could bring their own thing to it...I think we’ve all figured out how to function together and also not drive ourselves crazy." -- MMJ's Jim James // Sounds like: the band -- and this really is band -- is continuing to explore that neverland that hangs somewhere between eclectic indie experimentalism and more grounded roots rock -- a great nexus, if you asked us // What we like: lead title track may clock in at seven minutes, but it feels perfectly weighted and light on its feet...spacious without feeling spaced out, drifting on a bassline punch and reverbed, homespun vocal as acoustic riffs build slowly into arena-sized, jagged Neil Young electric tumult...three years since the experimental and scattershot vibe (not a bad thing) of '08's Evil Urges, MMJ sounds focused, relaxed and in the zone...
