Ray Davies - See My Friends

Let us now praise Mr. Ray Davies, founder and chief songwriter of the legendary Kinks, distinguished solo artist, general pop music icon -- and now willing participant in the famed "guest star tribute album" with the release of See My Friends November 7 in the U.K. and March 22 March 1 April 5 in the U.S. Corralling an impressive and diverse list of admirers including Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Mumford and Sons, Metallica, Jackson Browne, Lucinda Williams, Snow Patrol-man Gary Lightbody and Spoon, Davies revisits fourteen classic Davies/Kinks classics including "You Really Got Me" (w/ Metallica), "Celluloid Heroes" (Bon Jovi), "Waterloo Sunset" (Browne) and "All Day and All of the Night" (w/ Billy Corgan).
"This project came about almost by accident," says Davies when he and Big Star's Alex Chilton recorded a version of "Till The End Of The Day" in 2009. Davies then expanded the concept, made some calls and then traveled from Oslo to New York and New Jersey and then back to his own studios in London to complete the songs. "With some tracks I had to appreciate the style of the other artists," says Davies, "otherwise it would have sounded unbalanced. And I wanted the album to work as an entire listening experience but each track had a life of its own." Full song and guest listing after the jump.
