Kate Maslich-Bode - The Road of 6

Eastmountainsouth made only one album, 2003's self-titled project, but the music of Peter Bradley Adams and Kat Maslich-Bode has become something of an enigmatic touchstone for stellar acoustic music and breathtakingly beautiful harmonies. Signed by The Band's Robbie Robertson to the fledgling Dreamworks label, the debut still sounds as fresh and timeless as it did seven years ago. The two split, Adams going on to a solid solo career while Maslich-Bode settled happily into marriage and motherhood. But the duo reunited this year for a brief tour and Kat appears on Adams' forthcoming new 2011 album.
Maslich-Bode also began work last year with producer Neilson Hubbard on her own solo project, The Road of 6, a six-track EP that was released this week via new indie Mishara. With guests Glen Phillips, Jim Lauderdale and Mary Chapin Carpenter on hand, Road proves to be a lovely musical journey, Maslich-Bode's lilting, velvet-textured soprano supremely gorgeous throughout. Love songs don't get more touching and heartfelt than "March", the EP's opener that pulses with warmth and stunning production. "Poor Old Town" written after "watching Coal Miner's Daughter for the 2000th time" is an Americana-tinged gem. But it is "Let's Go Out Tonight" that closes the EP on a magical high, Paul "Blue Nile" Buchanan's song of longing and anticipation a moody classic of grand atmospherics and quiet majesty.
